Cooking food in a tangine. A taste of Morocco cuisine in a Gift Box.

Gift Giving and Morocco

We recently curated a gorgeous Gift Box Collection 'A Taste of Morocco' reflecting the food and colors of Morocco, so I thought it appropriate to blog about the inspiration for this Gift Box Collection.

As you may know authentic Moroccan recipes make good use of spices such as ginger, cumin, turmeric and many others, giving Moroccan food that special flavor. And yes, it's quite spicy however, authentic Moroccan food is not spicy hot.

A typical Moroccan dish is Tangine which is like our stew.  Slow cooked in a clay dish with a conical lid the food slowly steams and the results are mouth-watering.  Cous cous is also typically eaten in Morocco.

Harissa is a Tunisian hot chili pepper paste, the main ingredients of which are roasted red peppers, Baklouti peppers or serrano peppers, spices and herbs such as garlic paste, caraway seeds, coriander seeds, cumin and olive oil.  We have included a fabulous mix by Julie Le Clerc in our Gift Box. You can also purchase this at Sabato.

Moroccan cuisine is influenced by Morocco's interactions and exchanges with other cultures and nations over the centuries. It is typically a mix of Berber, Arab, Andalusi, and Mediterranean cuisines, with slight European and sub-Saharan influences.

Gift giving in Morocco is an important concept and is expected at certain times and to be done in certain ways, with many protocols to be mindful of when Gift Giving.

There are several opportunities to present gifts such as on special religious days, hostess gifts, birthdays, weddings, a newborn.  Specific types of gifts are encouraged as it conveys a certain meaning or understanding behind the gift which is seen as acceptable to the recipient.

In the western world Gift Giving is less complicated, but the meaning behind Gift Giving remains as important as in places such as Morocco.

It is with this meaningful intention and thoughtful attention to each detail that we have curated a Collection of Gift Boxes for your pleasure.  The choices available meet most expectations.  View our extensive range https://giftsofdistinction.co.nz/
